Paulo Sousa, PhD, is an elite triathlon coach from Portugal now residing in California and operating The Triathlon Squad, a high-performance environment for elite triathletes. Among other accomplishments, he coached two of the three male athletes in the Rio Olympics 2016, and was given the USAT Coach of the Year award for 2016.

Learn how to improve your running from one of the fastest runners in the sport of triathlon. Sean Jefferson is a former professional mid-distance runner with a mile personal best of 3:56. Injuries forced him to quit running, and instead, he ended up becoming a professional triathlete. Barry Siff is the president of USA Triathlon, and serves as member of the board of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and the American Triathlon Confederation (CAMTRI). He has been an integral part of the multisport scene since 1986 years as an athlete, race organizer, writer and executive leader. As an athlete Siff completed his first marathon in 1981 before turning to triathlon five years later while living in Omaha, Nebraska. He has finished more than 60 marathons and 10 IRONMAN triathlons, and was a full-time adventure racer from 1998-2003.

Many promising triathlon races have fallen flat on the run. Somebody who has made running off the bike his biggest strength is Eric Schwartz, former elite triathlete and duathlete. Among other accomplishments, Eric won the US national championships in duathlon in 2004. Today Eric and I discuss run training for triathletes, as well as why triathletes should give duathlons a go, and how to do that from both a training and racing perspective.
